Hi good morning! Happy RAINY Friday. Today, I wanted to share something small I did this weekend in a big decluttering project I have going on in my life. Lately, I have been BIG on getting rid of clutter, minimalizing my materialistic stuff at home and also getting rid of things in my life that don’t make me a better person or bring me joy.
I started off by doing a full social media Follow/ Cleanse. It felt so GOOD. Social Media has been around personally in my life since I was probably around 13 starting off with Myspace. It’s pretty much part of my life and has literally influenced me in so many ways. Social media CAN be wonderful. I have kept up with family that lives in other parts of the world and friends who have moved away. I get to see their accomplishments, their families grow, and important milestones. Truth is that social media can also be horrible as well. It can be a space where if you’re not currently feeling your best or not having the best day being on it can make it worse. Lately, I came to the realization that I was following accounts that no longer made me feel good. I was following people who I had not seen in years, and they were not a part of my life anymore and I did not care to keep up with. I was following pages that did not motivate me and in fact were doing the opposite of it. Truth is, I love to see Pinterest worthy pages with the perfect clean homes and fitness models who spend all day working out but at the end of the day. I am a working mom of 3. That is not a lifestyle I have. When I hop on to social media, the last thing I want to do is finding myself feeling guilty for not having a Pinterest perfect organized home or all day to workout. I wish I did, but I don’t. I do, however have time for an hour work out a day and I will take that! What were pages that used to inspire me started making me feel like I didn’t have enough time in the day, and I wasn’t doing my ALL BEST. Currently, I am loving following more pages now that show the real, the raw, the behind the scenes. I want to see the mom who was able to get that workout in with her kids at home or sneak out for a bit to get it done, I want to see that stay at home mom showing what a day in her life is like, that adventurous girl and her dog living their best life, those out there traveling the world and exploring new places, that mom who is out there supporting her kids in their sports, those who feel like they are barely making it in life YET they NEVER give up. They show up. I want nothing but positive in my life right now, even if that means going out of my comfort zone to unfriend someone. In my plunge, I unfollowed someone who I used to love following their posts until recently, and it all became about complaining and shaming people. I thought, ” Oh, but I love the positive stories she posts, but at the end of the day the content that is positive does not justify the negative content. I unfollowed, and I don’t regret it. I am choosing how I want to live life, and I choose happy.
Here is your sign to take control of the energy that you bring into your day and in your life. If it’s not adding to your mental well-being, don’t let it do the opposite to it. If it doesn’t uplift you, cut it out of your life. It will do wonders for your mental health. To be honest, they probably won’t even notice you unfollowed them, and the amount of peace that you will bring into your life is totally worth it. We all need to update our phone contacts every once in a while, clean out our emails and adding social media to that list needed as well in my opinion. Block, unfollow or restrict. Thank me later.
