Good morning, and happy Sunday. I want to talk about my minimalist obsession in this blog post! As you know, I have been on a health journey for the past years. I am all about eating clean, home made remedies for everything, getting good quality sleep, and just being a healthy whole person overall in my 30’s. I‘m also always so busy. I am a mom of 3, and I work full time 5 days a week, 3 of those days out of the home. I juggle a busy schedule with different kids’ schedules. I am also training for a marathon on top of that. It can be a lot at times to be honest.
What has helped me so much in just keeping a clear mind and stress-free life is having clutter free spaces, including my home. Having a clutter free home has done wonders for my mental sanity. I have practiced this for almost 4 years, and every year, I appreciate it more. I have learned that materialistic things don’t actually make me happy anymore. You would be surprised at how much happier you can be with less materialistic things in your life. Here are some habits that I started incorporating a few years back into my life and are now part of my lifestyle.
Stopped buying fast fashion and started buying better quality staple clothing

My closet in my late teens and all throughout my 20’s was full of cheap fast fashion. One or two occasion wearable clothing pieces. I loved shopping even if I didn’t need anything, and it just kept accumulating. I would hold on to clothing for years even if they went out of style. I would never want to re wear outfit, and god forbid on the occasions I had to, and someone wanted a picture of me in it. My daughter has been my biggest encourager of the last years to stop shopping fast fashion. She loves statement pieces that can be styled in different ways for the different seasons, and I have taken a couple of hints from her taste. She is my gentle reminder when I want to cave in to fast fashion of the harm it does to our world. A big help in making this change is that I make almost 100 percent of my clothes shopping online and only through websites that I know the quality in their clothes will last me many years.
Started shopping in my closet

I have started this new thing over the past years, highly encouraged by my coworkers. They would hear me say I had to look for an outfit for this or that, and they started suggesting I “ shop my closet”. I thought, what in the world is that? It is exactly what it sounds. You look for stuff in your closet. My closet doesn’t have a lot of items, but I can usually always make stuff work. I love it. Now, unless I really want something or need something and I know I can re wear it for multiple occasions, I won’t buy it. I will shop in my closet because I know the clothing I have was bought with the intention of repeating it.
Got rid of unnecessary clutter in my home

You would be surprised how many items in your home you are not even using anymore, and you are still just holding on to. Our current home is small, and I wanted to make good use of our space. We had many things that were outdated, or we had stopped using it or outgrown it. We had cooking pans, water cups, strollers, bike baby carriers, and workout items that we hadn’t used in years, and at this point, we weren’t going to use them. We got rid of it all, and man, has it made everything look better. We have been doing it for years, and we have officially said goodbye to hoarding,
Started doing a monthly clean out

I highly recommend you make this a monthly chore over just doing it at the beginning of the year. This includes junk drawers. I took out all my cables and tested them out with batteries, manuals, mail, and pens. Everything that is broken or doesn’t belong throw it away. My husband might have thoughts on me throwing everything away, but that is for another blog post, LOL.
No spontaneous shopping trips

I used to be bored and go into a Marshalls or HomeGoods and 300 dollars later-bring home all this stuff that I did not need. Stuff that I thought I needed. Clothes that I did not need. Online ordering is huge for me because if I really need something, I can order online. I am also a huge fan of Walmart or Target pickups for essentials. I order exactly what I need, and don’t waste time going inside or coming out with random things I didn’t need. Hope my tips give you a little insight on how you can do your part if you wanted to simplify your way of living.
